A couple of months ago, I applied to volunteer at the National Folk Festival, and hadn’t heard from them, so I figured they’d lost my application again this year (they did it a couple of years ago) and forgot about it. I remembered tonight, however, that I hadn’t actually checked my mail since I moved into my current place in December. And sure enough, my acceptance letter was there.
This is so cool.
Judy Small, who is pretty much retired these days, is playing. I haven’t had the chance to see her since I was little. For those who haven’t heard of her, she’s an amazing feminist folk singer, and she deserves so much more attention than she’s gotten over the years.
Eddi Reader is playing there, too. I randomly stumbled across her gig late one night at another festival a few years ago, and was pretty much blown away by one of the best live performances I’ve ever seen. It’s so cool to have the chance to see her live again.
then there’s women in docs, Francesca Sidoti, Peggy Seeger, the Spooky Men’s Chorale…*dies*
I can’t wait until Easter.
awesome! i love the folk festival.
You go to the National? or one of the Victorian ones?
