Rodney Croome redux
Apr 29th, 2008 by Rebecca
I originally had a long post here responding to Rodney Croome’s attacks on me and his attempts at justifying his evangelism of relationship registries where they’re not wanted.
In light of some things that have come to light since, I’m not going to prolong this argument.
I’ll merely say this. Rodney Croome, you are a jerk, and a sexist one at that. If you’re so respectful of your new buzzword, “choice”, you might want to learn to respect this community’s support for civil unions, and do us the courtesy of backing the hell off. Do whatever you want in Tasmania - but keep your hands the hell off our scheme, and quit calling for our government to change it and playing into the federal government’s hands.
That’s all I’m saying on this. Comments closed.
Rodney, rich?
Now it’s really, really, clear that you don’t know anything at all about him or his decades of GLBTI activism.
Nothing you say has any validity.
hmm….
We need to stop attacking each other. Highly unproductive. And i dont want to hear “they started it…”…just end it now!
We as a community need to stop this navel gazing and begin to get solutions.
If we demand equality great…but equality does not begin with creating new rights for every one, but equality under the current rights that others enjoy. In other words lets get DeFacto and Marriage as this is a matter of Equality…right now nothing else is.
And Rodney Rich? Do you know him? Rodney is like the Gay communities answer to a Franciscan Monk…..he dedicates his life to us and gets very little back from it except people criticising him all the time…..
Kelly: I’m quite aware of his decades of LGBTI activism, and if this were five years ago, I’d probably be as strong a supporter as anyone. It isn’t, though, and I’m absolutely fed up with his pursuit of registry schemes for queers whether or not the community actually wants them. I have edited the post to make that somewhat clearer and tone down the snark a little bit, though.
Luke: This isn’t about navel-gazing. It’s about our right to choose our own scheme without a high-profile activist from the other end of the country providing fuel to the federal government’s fire by running with his own agenda. I’m not saying that he hasn’t done a lot for the community over the years, but I’m hardly surprised that he’s getting criticised now; he’s being an arrogant ass.
