As I posted a few days ago, we’re at a crucial time in the battle to see the Civil Partnerships Bill actually see the light of the day in the Legislative Assembly. With the federal government maintaining an hardline stance against the bill, our only real hope is to convince the territory government to plow […]

I wrote a couple of months ago about the bizarre and controversial appointment of Hilary Penfold, a right-wing idealogue with no judicial experience, to the ACT Supreme Court over the strong protests of the Bar Assocation and much of the legal community.
The ACT government, for reasons evident to no one but themselves, went ahead and […]

Penfold is currently the Secretary of the federal Department of Parliamentary Services, and a Howard government appointee whose reign there has been very controversial to say the least, where she was […]

Curse this heat…

It’s nearly 7pm, and the temperature has only just ducked under 35 degrees. According to the Bureau of Meterology, it’s four degrees hotter here than in Darwin, and a full ten degrees hotter than the rest of the country. I’ve had the fan on top speed most of the day, and it hasn’t helped much.
So […]

It’s that time of year again: Summernats.
Every January, this usually safe city gets taken over for a week or so for what essentially amounts to a festival for car hoons. It’s supposed to be a car festival, but - as it has every other year - it winds up being less about cars and more […]
